HASHCREW
How proof-of-work mining, minting, pricing, and reveal work on Solana.
Mining
Your browser searches for a SHA-256 proof using your wallet address, a nonce, and a recent Solana slot. CPU workers or a supported WebGPU device can run the search. A qualifying proof is submitted to the program to mint a Metaplex Core NFT.
Mining attempts run on your device. Minting incurs the current epoch price plus Solana transaction and account-creation costs. Failed transactions can still incur network fees.
How the proof is checked
seed_hash = sha256(wallet_pubkey ++ nonce_le ++ recent_slot_le)
hash_value = first 16 bytes of seed_hash, read as big-endian u128
valid proof: hash_value <= difficulty_targetThe program checks the wallet-bound proof, rejects future or stale slot references, and records consumed proofs to prevent reuse. A recent slot must be within the configured 150-slot age limit at submission.
A mining proof does not reveal the final traits. The character is determined later through the reveal process.
Epoch prices and difficulty
Each epoch contains 1,000 NFTs. The mint price stays the same throughout an epoch and changes only at the next epoch boundary.
| Epoch | Mint #s | Mint price | Difficulty (bits) | Expected attempts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 1–1,000 | 0.05 SOL | 32 | ~4.3B |

| 3 | 3,001–4,000 | 0.60 SOL | 35 | ~34.4B |
| 4 | 4,001–5,000 | 0.80 SOL | 36 | ~68.7B |

| 15 | 15,001–16,000 | 10.00 SOL | 47 | ~140.7T |
| 16 | 16,001–17,000 | 11.00 SOL | 48 | ~281.5T |
| 17 | 17,001–18,000 | 12.00 SOL | 49 | ~562.9T |
| 18 | 18,001–19,000 | 13.00 SOL | 50 | ~1125.9T |
| 19 | 19,001–20,000 | 14.00 SOL | 50 | ~1125.9T |
Prices rise by exactly 1 SOL per epoch after epoch 9. The end of the first 10,000 mints is the end of the initial unique-art phase, not an automatic supply limit.
Difficulty and expected attempts
The current difficulty schedule starts at 32 bits, increases by one bit per epoch, and caps at 50 bits. Each additional bit approximately doubles the expected number of attempts. These are statistical averages, not a countdown or a promise of a particular mining time; your hardware and luck both matter.
Traits, art & reveal
Procedural characters combine mask styles, garments, expressions, fabrics, colors, backgrounds, skin tones, and eyebrows. Rare material finishes and hand-drawn unique characters add variety.
From a mining proof to a revealed character
- A successful mint creates a Core NFT with placeholder metadata and records a future reveal slot.
- After the target slot, the reveal instruction combines the mining seed with that slot's blockhash to derive the revealed seed.
- The finalizer renders the procedural character, or selects its assigned unique artwork, and uploads the image and metadata.
- The asset's metadata URI is updated so the revealed artwork can appear in your wallet and the gallery.
revealed_seed = sha256(seed_hash ++ blockhash_of(reveal_slot))The renderer uses the revealed seed. The mining seed by itself does not determine the final character. Reveal and metadata publication are separate steps, so the finished image may appear after the mint confirmation.
Unique crew members
The initial unique-art phase spans ten 1,000-mint epochs: 10,000 NFTs in total. One hand-drawn 1/1 is assigned within each configured window. If the unique has not appeared earlier, the last mint in that window receives it.
Completing this initial phase does not automatically stop regular minting. Any pause or additional unique-art releases will be announced separately.
FAQ
- Does searching for a proof cost SOL?
- Mining runs in your browser. The mint price and Solana transaction or account costs apply when you submit a qualifying proof. Failed transactions may still incur network fees.
- Can another wallet submit my proof?
- No. The proof includes your wallet public key, and the program checks it against the wallet that signs the mint transaction.
- Does the price change after every mint?
- No. Each epoch has a fixed mint price. The mint screen shows the price currently charged.
- When will I see the final artwork?
- Usually shortly after minting. The NFT first has a placeholder while its reveal slot passes, typically about 13 seconds. The finalizer then publishes the artwork. Automatic retries and a periodic sweep pick up mints that were not completed immediately.
- Does minting stop at 10,000 NFTs?
- No. That number marks the end of the first ten unique-art windows, not an automatic supply limit.
